Turlock, CA- Kool Kars for Charity, a hot rod show benefitting Hospice of Emanuel a nd the Parent Resource Center, returns to the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds in Turlock for its 10th year on September 17.
Spectators get in free.
This year's show will include a special tribute to Hughson upholster Leon Jones, who passed away earlier this year.
"Leon was the inspiration for the show 10 years ago," explained organizer Don Harmon. "He needed a heart valve replacement and we organized the show to raise money to help pay for it. After that year, we decided to continue the show to support worthy charities."
In this year's show, there will be a special display area for people to show cars that Jones upholstered.
"He was a good friend to a lot of people, and he'll be missed," Harmon said.
Last year, more than 350 hot rods, street rods and muscle cars were on display. The event raised $7,500 which was donated to both Hospice of Emanuel and the Parent Resource Center in Modesto.
"We already have 200 pre-entries, so it's going to be a good show again this year," Harmon said. "This year's raffle will be for a three-night trip to Las Vegas, including a flight from San Francisco for two people and accommodations at New York, New York."
Raffle tickets are $5 each.
The show will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cars can be pre-registered or entered the morning of the show, and everyone who enters a car receives a free tri-tip lunch for two with all the fixings.
The show is sponsored by the Stanislaus County Fair, Silva Welding, Wiley Printing Co. and Candy's Carefree Travel. For more information or to enter a car, call 668-1277 or 552-0358.
