Turlock, CA- Emanuel Medical Center's really big heart will be displayed in two ways at the Merced County Fair June 15 to 19.
First, Emanuel is an official sponsor of the 120-year-old community event and the presenting sponsor on Friday, June 17, which helps keep ticket prices down so visiting the fair remains affordable for area families.
Second, Emanuel will once again set up its giant walk-through heart exhibit to educate fair visitors about heart functions and heart health. The heart exhibit is 20 feet long, 15 feet wide and nine feet tall.
"Last year we had 6,000 visitors tour the heart exhibit at the Merced fair," said Pennie Rorex, Emanuel's associate vice president for corporate communication and marketing. "This year, the heart has been upgraded and will have new interactive features inside including heart-related questions with multiple choice answers."
Get the right answer, a green light will flash. Get it wrong and you'll see red - and have a chance to try again.
Volunteers at the exhibit will also be handing out bookmarks with heart-healthy living tips and heart attack symptoms.
Emanuel's walk-through heart exhibit will be located across from the Fine Arts and Photography building and in front of the Senior Home Arts Building and will be open for tours all five days.
Emanuel is in the second year of building a comprehensive cardiac care program for Turlock and the surrounding communities, and performed the first open heart surgery ever in Turlock earlier this spring. The cardiac program also includes a state-of-the-art Cardiac Cath and Interventional Lab for diagnostic and interventional procedures and emergency heart attack treatment.
