Press Release
Cancer Survivors Can Celebrate at ‘Take Two,’ Emanuel’s Relay for Life Premiere Night

Turlock, CA- Kick off the year's Relay for Life activities at "Take Two," a red-carpet, movie-themed celebration for cancer survivors on March 24 at Emanuel Cancer Center.

"'Take Two' is our second Relay for Life premiere specially created for cancer survivors and their guests," said Keith Pipes, director of Emanuel Cancer Center, which is hosting the event. "Last year we had a good turnout, but this year we're hoping even more of the area's cancer survivors can come and celebrate together."

The reception takes place Thursday, March 24 at 7 p.m. at Emanuel Cancer Center, 880 E. Tuolumne Road in Turlock. The evening's festivities will include entertainment, desserts, prizes and Relay for Life T-shirts for survivors.  Cancer survivors and their guests are encouraged to RSVP by March 18 by phoning 209-664-2434 or emailing

"It's free, it'll be fun and it helps promote Relay for Life," Pipes said.

The reception kicks off a month of Relay for Life activities in Turlock, which culminate on April 16 and 17 with the 24-hour event held at Dutcher School.

"Turlock has always embraced Relay for Life and the fight against cancer," said Kristin Bettencourt, chair of this year's Survivors' Reception. "Relay for Life raises money to help the American Cancer Society search for new cures, and gives so many people a way to come together and do something meaningful to fight this disease."

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length.

Opened in 2007, the Emanuel Cancer Center brings world-class cancer care to Turlock. The Center is fully accredited by the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer in recognition of its quality of treatment and care - a commendation only awarded to about 20 percent of cancer programs in the country. The Emanuel Cancer Center includes advanced diagnostic services at the Ruby E. Bergman Women's Diagnostic Center, radiation oncology at Stanford Emanuel Radiation Oncology Center, medical oncology, surgery and other services for cancer patients and their families. Patients at Emanuel Cancer Center can also participate in clinical trials of new treatments.
